Community policing: the
120th Precinct Community Council meeting
November 19th at 7 pm
Immanuel Union Church
693 Jewett Avenue
The meeting was called to order at 7:30. Precinct head Deputy Inspector John Denesopolis delivered an impassioned speech about reports in the newspaper regarding the November spike in shootings, which are alleged to be the beginnings of a gang war.
While he acknowledged that a number of the incidents involved gang members, he cautioned that no one should jump to conclusions because of that. He stated that people who are in prison for any length of time must join a gang in order to survive, so when gang members get into fights, it is not the start of a gang war. The 120 has gotten extra help from a Major Case Squad from Brooklyn and additional resources from the Staten Island command in order to combat these incidents, and arrests have been made.
The Anti-Terrorism Task Force made a presentation, especially timely and useful in view of the upcoming trial in Manhattan. The following number should be noted: 1-888-NYC-SAFE (1-888-692-7233), for use in the event of suspected terrorist activities.
Finally, the Auto Theft Group made a presentation, and distributed the leaflet which is available in pdf format by clicking here. He reiterated that drivers are not required to keep insurance cards and registration in their cars, just with them when they are driving.
